Make Information Accessible to All

When information is hidden, power goes unchecked. Freedom of Information is one of the most powerful tools ordinary people have to demand answers, expose wrongdoing, and strengthen democracy in the UK. Your donation helps ensure that information remains accessible to everyone — not just the powerful. If you believe sunlight is the best disinfectant, please donate today. Together, we can build a more transparent and accountable society.

Become a supporter and together we can:

Hold Power to Account

Our technology enables you to prise open closed doors, making authority decisions more transparent and creating greater accountability.

Strengthen public interest journalism

WhatDoTheyKnow has already been used to uncover documents in countless fights for justice including the infected blood and Post Office scandals – together we can continue to shine the light and demand answers.

Innovate and upskill

With you behind us, our expert team can pioneer new ways of improving transparency and train everyday citizens to access their right to information.

“Using mySociety services, we uncovered how many survivors of modern slavery were deported or detained in prison-like immigration detention settings. This has helped us illustrate the scale with which survivors are denied justice and support, helping to keep modern slavery in the national news”

Why does mySociety need donations for these sites?

Running WhatDoTheyKnow needs attention every day to:

  • Support users with FOI requests (we help approx 10,000 user support requests per month)
  • Offer training & resources to new FOI users
  • Provide support for the other countries using our code to run their own FOI site – from Ukraine to Colombia
  • Work on new features for the site to make it more accessible
  • Manage risk and respond to potential data breaches
  • Advocate for policy and procedure changes to improve transparency in the UK and beyond
  • Maintain all the servers behind the scenes that help us manage the storage of over 1 million public requests!
