We make free and simple services that help
those furthest from power to have a voice.

mySociety is a registered charity committed to making a fairer society by providing digital services, research and data, openly and at no cost. We use technology to help people understand and take part in the decisions that affect their lives and communities.

We provide these services free of charge because we believe in:

  • Repowering democracy

  • Holding power to account and

  • Empowering communities to tackle the climate emergency

Our services are not publically funded and we rely on the support of generous individuals. Donating today is a tangible act you can take towards creating a fairer society.

How will you use my money?

mySociety works on projects across the areas of democracy, transparency, community and climate. We publish our accounts openly here.

What’s Gift Aid?

If you pay tax in the UK, please select the Gift Aid option – it means that we can reclaim the tax you have paid on your donations (currently 25p for each £1 you give), and it doesn’t cost you a penny extra.

For us to qualify, you must pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the tax that we’ll reclaim on your donations. More information about Gift Aid from HMRC.

Large donations and corporate partnerships

If you’re looking for ways to make a more significant donation, please visit our dedicated page.

The difference we make:

  • Since we started in 2003, we’ve given millions of people an easy route into democracy.
  • Our services help to hold institutions accountable. For example, citizens used WhatDoTheyKnow to uncover documents about the Post Office Horizon Scandal.
  • 20+ countries are now using our free Alaveteli platform to enable their citizens to access data. In some countries this information is a matter of life and death: eg in Ukraine, vital information about bomb shelter repairs was made public.
  • A GovLab report estimated that we had saved the UK charity sector £70 million a year in time on research and campaigns.

Using mySociety services, we uncovered how many survivors of modern slavery were deported or detained in prison-like immigration detention settings. This has helped us illustrate the scale with which survivors are denied justice and support, helping to keep modern slavery in the national news”  Maya Esslemont – Director, After Exploitation
