Standing together for change

mySociety is a charity. Our vision is of a fair society, where people are informed, connected and empowered to shape the future of their communities and the world around them.

You probably know us through our long-running websites: FixMyStreet, TheyWorkForYou, WriteToThem and WhatDoTheyKnow, which are all provided for free – no matter who you are.

If you’ve benefited from our services, please consider helping others to do the same:

  • £5 could help someone speak to power for the first time
  • £10 could enable access to a previously hidden government document
  • £40 could support hundreds of people to have a say in the decisions that affect their lives

Become a supporter and together we can…

Hold Power to Account

Our technology enables you to prise open closed doors, making authority decisions more transparent and creating accountability and justice for ordinary citizens.

Make participation possible

You’re the kind of person who speaks up – help make sure millions more can do the same. For many of our users, it’s the first time they’ve ever spoken to someone in power.

Alex is using WriteToThem to fight against sewage discharge by water companies.

Strengthen good causes

Your support keeps it free for all the organisations who campaign on behalf of others – people like Colostomy UK, Homes For Everyone, and Whale & Dolphin Conservation.

Maya used WhatDoTheyKnow to uncover government treatment of survivors of modern slavery.

“I support mySociety because the services you provide are useful in a really practical way; they empower people to become active and engaged citizens”

The difference we make

  • In 2025 we delivered 30 million sessions – that’s 2.7 million per staff member
  • 20+ countries are now using our free Alaveteli platform to enable their citizens to access data. In some countries this information is a matter of life and death: eg in Ukraine, vital information about bomb shelter repairs was made public.
  • A GovLab report estimated that our work has saved the UK charity sector £70 million a year in time on research and campaigns.

Donate in memory or leave a gift in your will

When you give in memory of someone, you both help to create a fairer society for years to come.

Dick Fowler donated in memory of a lifelong campaigner in 2024 to continue their legacy.

Increasingly people are choosing to leave a gift to charity in their will, as a significant way to leave a legacy for future generations. Leaving a gift in your will doesn’t need to be complicated – to do so, or to donate in memory please contact our Head of Fundraising on funding@mysociety.org to discuss a personalised tribute.
