Georgie joined mySociety in April 2018, on a mission to support and work with volunteer Open Data contributors and groups in many different countries as part of the Democratic Commons project.
That means expanding communities of Wikidata contributors and helping them gather and share data on every politician…in the entire world.
It’s an unusual position, but one that fits in well with Georgie’s previous jobs. “Before this I was working as a freelance ‘Engagement specialist’ for various clients including a street design company and a children’s charity. Prior to that I was with sustainable transport charity Sustrans, working on community-led projects”.
Ideally for a Community Manager, Georgie says she’s “an organised people person who likes finding out what makes folk tick and working together to meet both parties’ priorities”. She also loves spreadsheets. Well, who doesn’t?
In her free time, Georgie enjoys the great outdoors, clearly not doing anything in half measures: “I like walking and swimming in rivers. Oh, and I’ve cycled Lands End to John O’Groats twice”, she throws in. She also enjoys a touch of improv, and when she’s exhausted her body with all that physical stuff, she feeds her brain with MOOCs.
Georgie is fluent in: “Generating nicknames for people!”
