Describe your idea:

I’m proposing a website which keeps track of what current police priorities are in their local area and enables people to comment on them.

The system would also assist people in holding their local police to account for their performance working on the prioritised areas; as well as allow people to submit new suggested priorities for consideration.

Some priorities are set on a city or district wide level, others on a police force wide level and some are set nationally. It is not currently easy to find if a particular problem is receiving attention, and at what level it is prioritised. There are different systems in place in different parts of the country. Information available on police websites is often out of date.

What problem does it solve?:

The police are often perceived not to prioritise problems in the same way as the wider population which they serve.

It is currently difficult to find out what the process for agreeing police priorities is in a particular area and relatively few people engage with the process of setting police priorities and holding the police to account for their work on them.

Increasingly some police priorities are set at a local level, often with the involvement of local people and councillors. Mechanisms have been set up by local authorities and the police to enable people to influence policing, there’s a need to make those mechanisms easier to use.
