Describe your idea:
A site where users can submit Issues and Solutions to them where the users themselves vote on what Issues are relevant and what the best Solution is. When submitting an Issue the user is presented with a list of similar ones with the choice to proceed or to add the Solution to one that exists. Users will be able to flag Issues and Solutions as Offensive or Humourous with those exceeding a threshold of these being automatically hidden from view. But users (including MPs and journalists) will be able to view the votes and flags an issue has received against any thresholds they choose. It will be free from government control and will not reveal a user’s real name unless they choose to do so. I’ve gone into more detail on my blog (linked).
What problem does it solve?:
The Downing Street ePetitions site is centrally controlled and petitions recieve little to no real consideration, the government also demands to know your name and address whenever you sign up to one and requires each to have a time limit. It also provides no function for linking or merging similar petitions (e.g. those relating to “Beeching”). There is also a tendency for so called consultation excersises to selectively choose which voices to listen to, which responses to publish and to ignore the popular (democratic!) voice over government opinion on what they believe is the correct course of action.
