mySociety’s core team is an extremely friendly, hard-working group dedicated to make the world a bit better using the power of software. Our mission is “to help people become more powerful in the civic and democratic parts of their lives, by providing them with internet services that provide simple, tangible benefits”. What this means in practice is that we build websites and apps that are platforms for getting things done: things like reporting potholes, writing to politicians or campaigning about a local bus route.

Traditionally we’ve just been one team, but as we grow through 2013 and onwards, we are splitting into three overlapping teams:

• Improving our established UK sites like TheyWorkForYou.com
• Growing our Commercial Team – developing new products and building bespoke projects
• Encouraging international replication and re-use of our systems – such as Alaveteli,  the technology behind our freedom of information site WhatDoTheyKnow
