Volunteering for TheyWorkForYou
TheyWorkForYou is our parliamentary monitoring site, which as well as publishing a full record of Hansard, has a page for every elected representative. Its aim is to make government more accessible to all.
TheyWorkForYou was almost entirely built by volunteers, which is a testament to just what can be achieved through goodwill and hard work.
But you don’t need to be a coder to help!
While much of the site’s content is automated, there are some things that only a human can do. This includes sifting through voting records to create a topline snapshot for each MP – and that’s the sort of task that makes us incredibly grateful.
Ad hoc help
If you’re not ready to volunteer formally, there are a couple of things you can do whenever you have a few minutes.
- Help other users of the site by leaving annotations on debates (see the foot of any debate page); for example linking to documents mentioned in speeches; fact checking, etc.
- Search for copyright-free photos of any representatives for whom we do not yet have a photograph (we cannot use copyrighted images).
