WhatDoTheyKnow

Make or browse Freedom of Information requests

WhatDoTheyKnow was launched in February 2008, with these aims: to make it easy to file a Freedom of Information request; and to keep a public archive of the requests and the responses received from public bodies.

The Freedom of Information Act had been in force since 2005, but we wanted to make it fully accessible to people who were not journalists, lobbyists or professional operatives – it is a law that gives us all a right, not just those experts.

WhatDoTheyKnow makes raising a Freedom of Information request really easy. Just visit, pick a department, type a request, and we’ll handle the rest – more than 115,000 requests have already been made using the site.

Even better, WhatDoTheyKnow is an archive of requests and responses made by other people, so you can search for information other people have found, or even set up email or RSS alerts to get notified when something comes in that you’re interested in.

Browse or make Freedom of Information requests now.
