MySociety.co.uk – Profile Pages

Written by on August 24th, 2009 in Proposal submissions 2009

Describe your idea:

It will be the mysociety equivalent of myspace – not for music – but for making a positive difference to society.

Give each person their own profile page on mysociety.co.uk where they can add videos, images, audio, bulletins, make friends and create networks of change.

My profile page will be about ME and how I fit into my society and the services around me. It will show information related to me such as jobs, news, government issues etc.

The top twenty sites in the world consist of social utilities such as blogs, networking, sharing multimedia etc. This is how the web is being used NOW and it has made a difference across the world.

What problem does it solve?:

Instead of having to go to different sources of information – everything is in one place.

Instead of me having to click on multiple mysociety sites – all of these will be present on my profile page as widgets which I can choose to add. I can also add BBC News widgets and other websites to my page.

I can use it to lobby my MP, plan demonstrations using mapumental and build up my network of friends who share the same cause.

The aim is for people to create profile pages to make a combined difference to their society and reflect on what is out there to initiate change.

Type of idea: A brand new project
