Call For Proposals 2009 » OrganisersNearMe

By Mark Mullen

Describe your idea:

I would like a site where I can put in what open government topic I want to understand (in my case borough planning, my rights relative to the police, how the NHS works). I also put in what I know about (in my case, election observation, how to hold a press conferences, group decision making procedures). I put those things in as well as my post code, and no other information. I can read about the knowledge of others, after designating a radius. If I want to talk to somebody, I send them an “in mail” if they want reply, they tell me about what I want to know via anonomous in mail, or we can move to email or to phone, or we could meet.

What problem does it solve?:

In the topics related to government that I don’t understand, I don’t even know the right questions to ask. It is often much more efficient to discuss with a real person than to web around.

My proposal is a way to find someone, in an anonomous way so that they don’t have to answer if they don’t want to. But if they do we can work together. I have been frustrated to learn years later than I should have that my neighbors could have answered questions and helped with neighborhood campaigns.

Distance shouldn’t prevent people that can help each other from meeting, if there are knowledgeable people near by. This will cut carbon use, and draw together neighborhoods.

Type of idea: A piece of infrastructure or an API
