Describe your idea:

Ministers and Political Parties make speeches, write articles and publish reams of policy papers. More often than not, they make big claims, but don’t back them up. doyoubelievethem.com would be a wiki style project where major articles and announcements can be commented on, not with blog style comments of partisan bickering, but with sources to prove or disprove what is being said.

What problem does it solve?:

Major announcements are usually just reported verbatim or followed up by a comment piece which just seeks to reinforce a point of view. By actually analysing what is being said, and by ensuring that only referenced sources are accepted onto the site, we can have more accurate reporting, and perhaps more accurate politicians and press

Type of idea: A brand new project

  1. George G. Bolgar says:

I am not sure I like the idea of calling MPs liars (which in effect is what this suggestion implies); but I do like the idea of having a repository of linked documents that relate to a particular government objective or plan.

It should not be a case of:

“he said this on Monday, but she said this on Thursday, so one of them is lying”

    but rather:

“he said this, these are the documents that relate to the issue, now go and make your own mind up about what it all means”.
