How do they relate to you?
Describe your idea:
Councillors are voted by members of the public to be their eyes and ears on the Council. We the public choose them because they are supposed to represent our interests and understand our needs.
My idea is to have an understanding of councillors in more detail such as interests, age, sex and other demographic data so that we can compare them to ourselves.
In addition it would be good to understand how our councillor compares to the demographic diversity of our wards. This information could be provided from the national census as a baseline to ensure that who we are voting is ‘in-touch’ with their ward.
What problem does it solve?:
This idea would help citizens understand more about who they are voting for in an election.
It will also ensure that Councillors can understand their wards in more detail and perform a better public service as a result.
