mySociety is hiring an open source web developer

mySociety is an award-winning charitable project building websites that deliver simple, tangible benefits to people in the UK. Since 2003, we have set up many of the UK's best-known internet democracy websites, including TheyWorkForYou, FixMyStreet, PledgeBank, and the 10 Downing Street e-petitions site.

We are now looking to hire a web developer with exceptional user interface design skills. This is a rare opportunity for an outstanding individual to join our small team of paid developers, work on ground-breaking new projects, and help shape the future of both mySociety and our democracy.

Technical skills

  • World-class skills in one or more of PHP, Perl, Python or Ruby
  • Expertise in open source operating systems, databases, and version control
  • Experience of working in a team with other programmers, contributing to project architecture
  • Experience of accessible, standards-based web design
  • Fanatical obsession with usability

Personal qualities

  • Self-starter, with the ability to manage own work and to work both at home and with colleagues
  • 'Completer-finisher' personality, with track record of delivering projects to deadline
  • Team player with strong communication skills
