What NEED does this meet?
It is sometimes difficult to find where is the closest place to recycle your waste materials. This idea would serve to make that information more easily available.
What is the APPROACH?
Use public data to create a database which people can query to find the closest recycling centre for various types of materials. Should show the address of the recycling centre. Could incorporate maps (google maps). Should be queryable by different types of materials.
Could also link to kerbside collection details and local authority websites recycling sections.
What are the BENEFITS to people?
It would stop people going further than they have to drop off their recycling with the attendant environmental benefit of saving fuel.
What is the COMPETITION?
Don’t know
What BUDGETS & LOGISTICS are required?
Use existing data

This site does a postcode search on recycle banks, displaying the results on a streetmap along with a contact page for the local authority:

The data on that website (http://www.recycle-more.co.uk/banklocator/banklocator.aspx) is pretty good but not quite complete and their maps are terrible. It looks like their maps are provided by multimap.com the interface that google maps provides would be much better and far more usable.
